I have been following this nest since Feb. 2025, when Jackie & Shadow had 3 little eggs. Unfortunately, “Misty” (1st hatched) did not survive the harsh winter. Sunny and Gizmo, thrived and they successfully fledged in June.
On Jan. 23rd & 26th of 2026, 2 eggs were laid and we (eagle lovers / community) were all happy for this year’s clutch. However, on Jan. 30th, Common Ravens entered the nest and consumed them (eggs did show some cracks in shell prior to this). 💔
On Tuesday Feb. 24th, a new egg was laid. Then on Thursday, another! This new clutch brings hope and we are so excited to see them successfully hatch.

There is a luxury development project that has been a threat to the Big Bear Lake area. For many years, it has been on halt, thanks to the efforts of FOBBV and the concerned community. Below is just a bit of info taken from Save Moon Camp's website.
In 2001:
"Friends of Big Bear Valley originally began as a community effort over concerns about the luxury development project called Moon Camp in Fawnskin, CA. The developers hadn’t conducted any environmental analysis and the proposal, would have destroyed, among other things, a Bald Eagle foraging area, making it more difficult to successfully raise chicks. It would also damage a rare and endangered plant species unique only to Big Bear Valley. In addition, the community had valid concerns about the growing fire danger and the ability to evacuate safely."
In 2026:
"After months of negotiation led by Sandy Steers, The San Bernardino Mountain Land Trust (SBMLT) and the developer have entered into a limited agreement for SBMLT purchase Moon Camp for $10,000,000 to permanently conserve and preserve its nearly 63 acres. After the sale, the land will become part of the United States Forest Service (USFS). SBMLT has only until July 31, 2026 to raise the funds."
